Dual Citizen Brewing Company & The Naughty Greek to unveil their collaborative beer
April 13 at The Naughty Greek on University Ave
It was a special day when Dual Citizen Brewing Company opened their doors next to the newly minted second location of The Naughty Greek. Both companies, driven by mission statements of mindfulness and open arms, committed to being not just neighbors, but collaborators.
The relationship has been built on a foundation of trust, support, and creative teamwork. Now, more than a year later, Dual Citizen and The Naughty Greek are thrilled to unveil the natural next step — a beer brewed exclusively for The Naughty Greek.
The beer is brewed in a spirit indicative of Dual Citizen’s head brewer & co-owner, Max Filter, who honed his skills at the esteemed Left Hand Brewing in Longmount, Colorado; it’s straightforward, clean and pulls no punches.
Filter and Angelo Giovanis, owner of The Naughty Greek, put their heads together to establish the profile of a Minnesota-brewed beer that would be representative of the bright Athenian flavors for which The Naughty Greek is known.
The beer is Filter’s white peppercorn & lemon-infused interpretation of a Witbier, or Belgian-style ale. Beer was first introduced to Greece in the 1800s by a Bavarian man named Fuchs — his beer, Fix Hellas, was the only beer produced in the country for decades and its soft-edged, light-hopped flavor — a characteristic often shared by Witbiers — has become synonymous with Greek beer. Giovanis added lemon and white peppercorn to the beer, which enhance the vibrancy, and create a summery beer to pair with The Naughty Greek’s offerings — the pairing is especially notable with The Naughty Greek’s hand-layered rotisserie pork spits, seasoned with sweet paprika.
The beer will be available exclusively at The Naughty Greek on University Ave, starting April 13, with plans for the future to add it to the menu at The Naughty Greek on Snelling.
Dual Citizen is a community-focused brewhouse born from a few simple beliefs. An understanding that substance beats trends. A recognition that community roots run the deepest. The understanding that what unites us is far greater than what divides us.
The Naughty Greek is a fast-casual restaurant in St Paul, with a passion for bringing Greek hospitality to the Twin Cities! We specialize in scratch-made Athenian street food with hand-layered pork & chicken spits, family recipes, and a magical combination of local and imported Greek ingredients.
“I started TNG because I miss authentic Greek food, and I want to share my love and passion for it with others. I try hard to represent the cuisine as traditionally and authentically as possible, and my goal is to spread an appreciation of it throughout the Twin Cities. In order for food to be authentic, the ingredients need to be fresh, and the recipes need to be straight from Greece.
I was inspired to open TNG by my father, who also opened a restaurant after finishing his career. It's located in the most magical village in Greece, in a walled city with no cars. He bought a house in the center of the marketplace and transformed it into the restaurant I grew up in.
So far, the most rewarding part of this experience has been the people...I get hugs from customers, that's amazing! I am so thankful that the Greek community and the neighborhood have embraced us, it means so much to me.”
